Frequently Asked Questions

I'm a complete beginner. Can I still join your classes?

Absolutely! Most of our classes are beginner friendly. Our BJJ Fundamentals Class is a great option for those just getting started. No prior experience is necessary. All you need is a willingness to learn and grow.

What should I wear to my first class?

For your first class, we recommend wearing comfortable workout clothes. If you decide to continue with us, you'll need a gi (a traditional martial arts uniform) for certain classes.

Do I need to be in good shape to start BJJ?

Not at all. BJJ is a great way to get in shape, and your fitness will naturally improve as you train. We encourage students to train and listen to their bodies at their own pace.

What age groups do you cater to?

We offer classes for children starting at age 5, to adults that are well into their senior years. Our Kids BJJ Class is designed for children ages 5+, while our other classes are suitable for teens and adults. We also have teen-specific classes available.

What safety measures do you have in place during training?

Safety is our top priority at Hendo BJJ. In fact, it's our #1 core vale. Our instructors are trained to ensure that all techniques are performed safely and correctly. We also encourage students to communicate openly about their comfort levels during training. You'll never be expected to perform beyond your capability, and you can take breaks whenever you want.

How often should I train?

This depends on your personal goals and schedule. As a beginner, training 2-3 times per week is great. As you become more advanced, you may wish to train more frequently. There is no minimum, but we typically recommend committing to at least 2 classes weekly.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes, we do. Private lessons offer personalized, one-on-one training with our experienced instructors. These sessions are tailored to your specific needs and goals.

How can I get started?

Just book your VIP Tour & Orientation and we'll be in touch with you to give further instructions. We can't wait to welcome you to the Hendo BJJ family!

What are the benefits of learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

BJJ offers numerous benefits, both physical and mental. Physically, it's a full-body workout that improves strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. Mentally, it fosters resilience, problem-solving skills, and mental toughness. It's also a practical martial art that equips you with the skills to defend yourself in real-life situations.

I don't know which class is right for me. Can you help?

Absolutely! We offer a variety of classes to cater to different skill levels and interests. Most of our classes are beginner friendly, yet we also have some specifically for beginners. We'll go over all of this with you at your VIP tour and orientation.
